On This Day, O Beautiful Mother
Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I remember growing up in our protected little world, thinking all along that everyone had the family we did . . . that everyone had a mom and dad who would walk through fire for them, and siblings who would do the same. I think it took me until high school to realize that was not the case. So, although I know you know this, today I thank you for every single sacrifice you made for us. I know it was not easy, but you made it look like a breeze. How you shared that unconditional love, managed that household, and still had time to be so active in the church is beyond me! There is a moment when Dad was creating a "home movie" of us walking out of the house and down the front stairs to the car for church - must have been Easter. I must say that I've watched that movie several times, but just recently I looked at you walking out of the house after all of us had gone before you -- and something hit me! How on earth did you manage to get all the girls ready (hair curled, dresses pressed, shoes polished), out the door on time, and be able to look so beautiful with your lipstick perfectly in place? My mother, my hero.

Many blessings to all moms and nurturers today.

In honor of the world's most pefect mother, I'll finish the words of the hymn that I began in the title:

On this day, O Beautiful Mother!
On this day we give thee our love.
Near thee, Madonna, fondly we hover,
Trusting thy gentle care to prove.

On this day we ask to share,
Dearest Mother,thy sweet care.
Aid us e'er, our feet astray
Wandering from thy guiding way.
Queen of Angels, deign to hear,
Thy dear children's humble pray'r.
Young hearts gain, O Virgin pure,
Sweetly to thyself allure.

P.S. Jeannette, get well soon!
